Dr. Linda Peterson


Linda Peterson, PhD, MEd, is the Senior Evaluation Advisor, in the Evaluation Studies Unit in the UBC Faculty of Medicine, an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Cellular Physiological Sciences, and serves as the Assistant Secretary to the Committee on the Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS). 

Prior to taking on these positions in 2008, she served on the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa for 23 years and was Dean of Undergraduate Medical Education from 1997-2005.  In addition to participating in the Harvard Macy Scholar Course for Leaders in Medical Education, she obtained a Masters of Education in Adult Education in the UBC Faculty of Education in May 2010. 

Dr. Peterson completed her PhD in Renal Physiology at Yale in 1975, Postdoctoral training in the Renal Division at the University of Colorado in Denver and a sabbatical in the Renal Division at Harvard University in 1995.  She had a productive 25 yr career in biomedical research while realigning her career in medical education.  

She has been active in the accreditation of Canadian and US medical schools and served on the CACMS committee for 6 years. She led a taskforce on Generalism in Undergraduate Medical Education at the University of Ottawa and a taskforce on Student Assessment in the Faculty of Medicine at UBC.  Current research interests include: student assessment, and program evaluation.
